Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly broke THESE 3 FIFA Club World Cup records!

Pitso Mosimane guided Al Ahly to a third place finish at the FIFA Club World Cup this past weekend in what was a record-breaking edition.

Mosimane’s charges hammered Saudi Arabian outfit Al Hilal 4-0 in the 3rd/4th play-off match, and, thus, set THREE new records.

BACK-TO-BACK FIFA CLUB WORLD CUP BRONZE MEDALS

Al Ahly, under Mosimane, won their second successive bronze medal of the FIFA Club World Cup – they won it in 2021 and again in 2022.

In 2006, Al Ahly won their first bronze medal at the FIFA Club World Cup but they couldn’t sustain that success in their next appearance in 2008.

Mosimane also became the first coach in the entire world to win back-to-back FIFA Club World Cup bronze medals.

AFRICAN TEAM WITH MOST WINS AT FIFA CLUB WORLD CUP

Al Ahly’s win over Al Hilal was their sixth at the FIFA Club World Cup – and subsequently became the first African team with the most wins at the tournament.

The ‘Club of the Century’ are third overall behind Spanish powerhouses Barcelona (seven wins) and Real Madrid (10 wins) at the FIFA Club World Cup.

TEAM WITH MOST FIFA CLUB WORLD CUP GAMES

Al Ahly played three games at this year’s FIFA Club World Cup, and they have now surpassed Auckland City as the team with the most games played at the tournament.

Al Ahly have played 18 games since their first participation in 2005 – the record that was, until recently, held by Auckland City FC of New Zealand (16).
