LIVE: CAF Champions League, Mamelodi Sundowns v Al-Hilal

Mamelodi Sundowns will get their 2021/22 CAF Champions League group stage campaign under way against Sudan champions Al-Hilal on Friday, 11 February.

Kick-off is scheduled for 18:00.

Masandawana overcame AS Maniema Union over two legs in the second round of this season’s competition after a bye in the first round.

Al-Hilal, meanwhile, saw off Fasil Kenema and Rivers United to secure their spot in Group A, along with the DStv Premiership champions, as well as fellow Sudanese side Al-Merrikh and Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

Bruising encounter in store for Mamelodi Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi is expecting a bruising encounter at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

He said on TimesLIVE: “Set pieces are always the order of the day against a team like Al-Hilal.

“We have done a very intensive study on Al-Hilal. We have watched a lot of their matches against Al-Merrikh and even gone back to the matches we played against them in Sudan and here in SA last season.

“Their team has not changed that much. We know we are playing against a team that is very robust and aerially very strong with tall centre backs, tall midfielders and a tall number 10,” Mngqithi concluded.
