Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye doesn’t think Arthur Zwane is ready to take over from Stuart Baxter as the club’s head coach.

Speaking on the back of Amakhosi’s 1-0 loss to TS Galaxy in the Nedbank Cup, Khanye said the Soweto giants don’t have a coach in Baxter.

According to Khanye, Baxter’s team selection and tactics are the reason for the Chiefs downfall, but replacing him with Zwane would be a mistake.

Zwane has had two stints as Chiefs caretaker coach alongside Dillilon Sheppard, and the team looked more settled and improving under the duo.

However, Khanye believes that’s because there was little pressure on Zwane as he was just filling in for Baxter.

But if he becomes Amakhosi’s head coach on a permanent basis, Zwane wouldn’t cope with the pressure as the expectations would be higher, Khanye said.

Instead, Khanye is of the view that Chiefs should go for another experienced coach if they were to fire Baxter.

KHANYE FEELS ZWANE ISN’T READY TO LEAD KAIZER CHIEFS

“I will be honest with you. Yes, he (Zwane) can take over as a caretaker coach until the end of the season… that can be good,” Khanye told iDiski TV.

“But for him to coach Chiefs permanently, there would be a problem because he’s going to be given instructions whereby there would be expectations. Is he ready for a big team like Chiefs?

“As a caretaker coach, he looks good because there is no much pressure because he’s filling in for someone – it’s good but when there are expectations such as winning the league, the Nedbank Cup, MTN8 and Telkom Knockout Cup, there would be pressure.”

“Consistency would be needed, he would need to get the best out of the players, history itself tells that Chiefs are a big team,” he said.

“Arthur is good, and yes, I love him. Whenever Chiefs play and he’s the coach, they look much better compared to when Stuart is in charge.

“You saw even before the break without Baxter… it was a blessing in disguise but for him to be appointed permanently as a Chiefs coach, then his lack of experience will be the biggest challenge,” added Baxter.
