The Citizens themselves will be looking to turn their fortunes around with a victory over Kaizer Chiefs after also crashing out from the Nedbank Cup first round last weekend.

“Everybody in the dressing room was absolutely gutted. Of course we would class ourselves as one of the teams with aspirations to win this trophy.” Kaizer Chiefs mentor Stuart Baxter said.
“We’ve been playing well enough and we are close to the top of the table. We believed a good cup run is not impossible for us, so going out brings up the equivalent level of disappointment.
“That trophy disappeared. We’ve got to do the best we can now in the league to finish as high as we can. We have to try marrying the short-term goal of winning a game or two with the long-term goals of building the squad and becoming that solid team.
“The long-term Kaizer Chiefs goal is balancing the squad, buying and selling the players. We need to bring through some kids and find a way to get all our better players on the field.
“All of that is a bit more medium to long term. The cup is short-term, so we didn’t want to throw that chance away. I think we have done, and therefore no one is happy with that or with the performance.
“It’s a cup we didn’t win and now we have to show in the league that we are building something that can lead to something next season.”
