Chiefs fans running out of patience as petition calls for Baxter to be axed

Kaizer Chiefs embarrassingly crashed out of the Nedbank Cup, losing 1-0 at TS Galaxy this past weekend, and it’s understandable that many fans have begun to express doubts over the direction the team is heading under the leadership of Baxter.

Chiefs’ slim DStv Premiership title ambitions also suffered a knock as they only managed to play to a 0-0 draw away to Cape Town City on Tuesday night.

Judging by fan reaction – as reported by The South African website – Amakhosi supporters are quickly growing tired of Baxter who is in his second stint at the Soweto giants.
Some Chiefs fans have already started a petition calling for club to sack coach Stuart Baxter, with over 2,800 “supporters” having signed the petition that aims to get to 5,000.

Interestingly, though, according to a source close to the Citizen, Baxter is set to stay put at Chiefs … at least for now.
“The coach won’t be fired any time soon, But the deal is that this has to be the rebuilding phase and next season the chairman is expecting the trophy drought to end or heads will roll. Baxter has the best Chiefs squad in a while and a lot is expected from him – some of his contract deliverables include bringing in silverware.”

However, here at The South African website, you can also have the opportunity to have your say on the matter in the poll that we have created below (which at this time shows 83% of people also agreeing that Baxter’s time is up).
Below, you can vote on the decision you feel should be made about Chiefs coach Baxter:

Notably, former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Junior Khanye believes Baxter should be axed as coach, with Arthur Zwane taking over as caretaker coach.
“The technical team must be honest, they don’t have a coach, many things need to be done,” he said on iDiskiTV.
“I will be honest, yes Arthur can take over until the end of the season as a caretaker coach, that can be good.
“But for him to take over as a coach there will be a problem, he will have a pressure, he will be expected to deliver under pressure, so it will not be good.
“They will need him to win trophies under pressure, so as a caretaker he will not feel pressure, but he was good in Baxter’s absence, but experience will beat him if they appoint him a head coach.”
