EPL: Guardiola, Cesc Fabregas react to Conte’s appointment as Tottenham’s new manager

Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola, has welcomed “outstanding” Antonio Conte back to the English Premier League, EPL, after the Italian was named Tottenham Hotspur’s new manager on Tuesday.

 

Conte was appointed as Tottenham’s new head coach on Tuesday following the sacking of Nuno Santo.

 

The 52-year-old signed an initial 18-month contract with Tottenham retaining the option of extending that deal if all parties are satisfied.

 

Reacting, Guardiola, during his pre-match press conference ahead of Man City’s Champions League clash with Club Brugge on Wednesday, told reporters: “First of all, welcome back to England, to the Premier League.

“His career speaks perfectly for itself. He has had success everywhere. An absolutely outstanding manager.”

 

Also reacting, AS Monaco midfielder, Cesc Fabregas, who played under Conte during their time together at Chelsea, hailed Tottenham for appointing his former manager to take charge at Spurs.

“I hate to say it, but what an appointment by Spurs,” Fabregas wrote on Twitter.

 

Conte will take charge of Tottenham for the first time against Vitesse in the Europa League on Thursday.

His first Premier League game for Tottenham will be against Everton on Sunday
