Powerful Explosion Rocks Lebanon Capital, Beirut

At least 10 persons have been confirmed dead and many others are wounded after a massive explosion erupted in Lebanon’s capital Beirut on Tuesday, August 4. 

The explosion, which erupted at the port in Beirut according to local media, started with a fire.

The blast shook several parts of the capital resulted in a shockwave thereby destroying nearby houses and cars

Lebanon’s Health Minister, Hamad Hasan, said the explosion in central Beirut caused a “very high number of injuries” and extensive damage, Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation International (LBCI) reported.

Marwan Abboud, Beirut governor, had visited the scene explosion at the Beirut port, revealing that contact was lost with a number of firefighters, who rushed to the scene to extinguish the fire.

Abboud further stated that Beirut city was troubled, as what happened was unprecedented. 

However, the United States has promised to continue monitoring the unfortunate incident closely in the meantime.

Alyssa Farah, the White House Director of Strategic Communications, tweeted that President Donald Trump had been briefed about the explosion.

“Praying for the safety of the people of Lebanon. The President has been briefed. We continue to monitor the situation closely,” she posted on Twitter.
